In my experience, Bio Spot has been very effective in killing and repelling  both fleas and ticks (promises to prevent fleas and ticks for up to four months).  It also kills mosquitoes which is a bonus. Another pro is that you don't need a prescription to buy it - it can be purchased over the counter, unlike some other products.  I also thought it was relatively simple to apply.

The only con I found is that because it is topical, you must be careful if you have small children. They need to be kept away from the animal for at least a day after application, just to be safe.
