What's That Horrible Smell?

Flatulence can be a problem in some dogs.

What causes it?

Flatulence is caused by bacteria in the digestive tract breaking down food and producing gas. It is usually not a serious problem for the dog, but it might be a serious (and unpleasant!) problem for you !

What can you do to solve it?

  • Exercise

Give your dog lots of exercise.  It will help to move the gas while he is outside. The more you can move outside, the less left for inside the house.

  • Eliminate Soy Products

Soy beans contain many proteins which can be difficult for your dog to digest. This can be the cause of a lot of the gas in your dog's digestive track. Find a dog food that does not contain soy. You will probably find that it will make quite a difference.

  • Stick To Dog Food.

Don't give your dog left over food.  It is not suited for him and may end up causing extra gas. It's also a good idea to stick to one type of dog food.

  • Digestive Enzymes

There are safe products that you can buy to give your dog. Taken before eating or during their meal, it will help their digestive track to digest the food, eliminating the gas build up in their intestines.
