Submissive Urination - Not a Failure of Housetraining
Don't worry!
This behavior is normal for puppies and occurs when a subordinate dog
is in the presence of a more dominant individual. In some cases the mere presence of the owner standing overhead elicits submissive
urination.
The best
solution for this type of behavior is just to ignore it, and avoid
situations that could bring it on. Kneeling when interacting
with a submissive dog will usually help too.
This type of behavior
should NOT be punished, as doing so will only make the situation
worse.
Most dogs outgrow this behavior as
they mature. Repeated punishment however,
could result in a permanent problem. (and a very wet floor!)
